In November 2012 Reality Check Systems enhanced the capabilities of the NHL Network RCS Ticker system for the 2013 NHL Season. The initial system introduced custom graphic design, hardware, and software to handle the demands of this 24-hour automated system. The various modes of ticker playout allow viewers to catch up on the latest schedules, scores, standings, league leaders, and current NHL.com headlines. The entire system is integrated with two different master control traffic systems in the US and Canada, and handles automation of commands to trigger the ticker, HD wings and LIVE bug. Playlist creation and management is handled from the NHL’s corporate office in New York City. Our 2012 release expanded the ticker to include sponsors, snipes, automated programming content and new elements (“HD Promo” “HD text”) to accommodate evolving social media needs.
January 2013 also saw NHL Network debut Reality Check’s revolutionary RCS Scorebug software for branding clean feed games with NHL Network custom insert graphics. Going beyond operating the on-air bug, RCS Scorebug provides a variety of content layouts, from fullscreen to lower third to slider options. In addition to managing text and visual displays, RCS Scorebug also enables interfaced roster, scoring, penalty, player and team statistical data. Like the RCS Ticker system, RCS Scorebug is incorporated into the master control systems, while the operator manages control and coordination of the insert graphics locally.
